The story this time around is significantly darker. You are dropped into a world teetering on the edge of ruin thanks to an environmental disaster known as the Crystal Encroachment. You play as the heir to the kingdom of Azuria, who is forced to team up with Princess Eleanor from the rival nation of Vermeil.

To make matters worse, a pair of twin Rathalos have just been born, which in the Monster Hunter universe is basically a gigantic flashing sign that the apocalypse is here. You will be taking on the role of a Monster Ranger, focusing on restoring the balance of nature rather than just being a traditional Rider.
