The wait is finally over for the New Generation faithful. Capcom just dropped the official Character Guide for Alex, and it is crystal clear that the grappler we know and love has been tuned for the absolute aggression of the Street Fighter 6 meta. Launching as the latest addition to the Year 3 roster, Alex looks like he’s ready to turn Metro City into his personal wrestling ring.
If you were worried Alex would lose his “hard-hitting brawler” identity in the transition to RE Engine, take a deep breath. The guide showcases a character that perfectly blends his classic Third Strike roots with the modern Drive System, making him a terrifying force in the corner.
Alex has always been about controlling the space just outside of the opponent’s reach, and his SF6 kit doubles down on that. ➜ Flash Chop: His signature move returns with incredible utility. The light version is fast for pressure, while the heavy version remains a primary combo tool that leaves opponents reeling. ➜ Lariat: This remains one of the best mid-range pokes in the game. In SF6, it seems specifically designed to catch people trying to back away from his command grab range. ➜ Air Stampede & Headbutt: His mobility tools are intact, allowing him to bypass fireballs and punish passive play from above.
What makes Alex truly scary in this iteration is how he utilizes Drive Rush. The guide demonstrates that Alex can now cancel his heavy normals into a Drive Rush to close the gap instantly, leading directly into his Power Bomb or a devastating frame trap.
His Overdrive (OD) moves have also seen a massive glow-up. OD Slash Elbow now has armor, allowing him to blow through incoming attacks and force his way in. If you’re playing against Alex, “guessing wrong” once could now mean losing 40% of your health bar and being stuck in a nightmare loop of grab-versus-strike mixups.
The visual flair on his Level 3 Critical Art is nothing short of spectacular. It’s a high-impact, multi-stage wrestling sequence that ends with a thunderous impact, shaking the entire screen. It’s the kind of “statement” move that defines a character built on pure, unadulterated strength.
Alex feels like he was built for the Drive System. His biggest weakness in previous games was often getting “lame-ed out” or struggling to get in, but with Drive Rush and armored OD moves, those days are over. He’s going to be a “Knowledge Check” character for the first few weeks, so if you don’t want to spend your matches looking at the ceiling, you better start hitting the lab now.
For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop. 🌊🏄♂️
