Crytek is turning up the heat and turning off your map. On March 18, Hunt: Showdown 1896 is dropping Update 2.7 and launching the scorching new Devil’s Trail event. This is not just a cosmetic update; it is fundamentally altering how the extraction phase works, making the bayou more terrifying and tactical than ever before.
The biggest shockwave hitting the community is the new Hidden Information and Discovery mechanic. During Devil’s Trail, Supply and Extraction Points will be completely hidden at the start of the mission.
To find your way out with the bounty, you will have to rely on some new world mechanics:
➜ Scout Towers: Two of these will spawn per map, containing interactive Scouting Maps that reveal hidden locations.
➜ Bounty Reveals: Extraction points will automatically reveal themselves if you pick up a Bounty Token or banish a Boss Target.
➜ Burned Convoys: Keep an eye out for smoke plumes marking these new hidden loot caches, which contain high tier gear and the new Catalyst Trait.
Crytek is also doubling down on the hunting aspect of the game with an expanded passive tracking system called The World Remembers. Every interaction now tells a story to keen eyed trackers. Ammo crates and First Aid Kits will remain open after use, doors will stay slightly ajar, and killed animals will leave permanent corpses.
You will not just be tracking other players, either. The event introduces a terrifying new AI enemy called the Firebreather. Rumored to be a corrupted member of the Turncoat Gang, this monster will spew fire at you from a distance. If you panic and try to slash him with a melee weapon, he will instantly erupt in flames.
To fight off these new threats, players can unlock a trio of new Hunters through the Battle Pass: One Who Flies, Red Raven, and a cannibalistic degenerate known as The Cook.
Taking away the extraction points at the start of the match is a massive shift. It completely kills the old spawn and camp meta and forces players to actually move through the world and interact with the new Scout Towers. The fact that leaving a door open or looting an ammo crate now leaves a permanent trail of breadcrumbs for other teams is going to make paranoia the ultimate weapon. You better start checking your corners.
For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop. 🌊🏄♂️
