Sex Bob-omb Strikes Back: Scott Pilgrim EX Brawls Onto PS4 & PS5

If you thought Scott Pilgrim’s story was over after the anime wrapped up, grab your bass guitar and stretch those thumbs. Tribute Games and series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley just dropped Scott Pilgrim EX, a brand-new, open-world beat ’em up that officially launched on March 3, 2026. It’s time to hit the streets of Toronto and punch the highlights right out of someone’s hair.

Metal Scott and the Fractured Timeline

Forget the League of Evil Exes; the new big bad in town is Metal Scott. This robotic doppelgänger has kidnapped the members of Sex Bob-omb and scattered their instruments across time and space. To get the band back together, you will be exploring an interconnected, River City Ransom-style map of Toronto 20XX, battling three new rival gangs that have taken over the city: the Vegans, the Robots, and the Demons.

The Roster and the Combat

The game features seven playable characters, and this time around, you are teaming up with former enemies to save the day. ➜ The Heroes: Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers return as your core brawlers. ➜ The Exes & Allies: You can now play as Matthew Patel (who functions as a puppet fighter!), Gideon Graves, Lucas Lee, Roxie, and the projectile-heavy Robot-01.

The combat engine has seen a massive upgrade from the 2010 game. Tribute Games added actual defensive options like blocking and spot dodging, along with invincible throws, dash cancels, and metered super moves. You can also spend your hard-earned coins in shops to upgrade your Strength, Vitality, Willpower, and Agility stats, or buy assist attacks that call in characters like Young Neil to trample your enemies.

Co-Op Chaos and Chiptune Glory

You don’t have to save the world alone. Scott Pilgrim EX supports 1 to 4 players for both local couch co-op and online drop-in play across PS4 and PS5. And because it wouldn’t be a true Scott Pilgrim experience without a killer soundtrack, the legendary chiptune pop-rock band Anamanaguchi has returned with 71 brand-new tracks to score your 8-bit beatdowns.

Tribute Games is on an absolute tear right now. They took everything they learned from Shredder’s Revenge and injected it straight into the Scott Pilgrim universe. The shift to an open-world structure instead of strictly linear levels gives the game so much more breathing room, and finally getting to play as the Evil Exes is pure fan service done right. If you have $28.99 and three friends, this is the easiest recommendation of the month.

For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop. 🌊🏄‍♂️
