Pop Punk and Zombie Romance: Stupid Never Dies Steals the Showcase

If you are desperately missing the golden era of early two thousands action games that prioritized pure style over everything else, your prayers have officially been answered. During the massive Future Games Show Spring Showcase this week, developer GPTRACK50 dropped the very first gameplay trailer for Stupid Never Dies, and it is easily the most chaotic announcement of the year.

The studio is being led by Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the absolute legend who helped create Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Dragons Dogma. They are taking all of that hardcore action experience and pouring it into a vibrant, pop punk fueled action RPG that looks completely insane.

The Undead Underdog

The premise is brilliantly ridiculous. You play as Davy, an incredibly weak zombie living at the absolute bottom of a monster ruled society. After finding a human girl named Julia frozen solid inside an abandoned shopping mall freezer, Davy falls instantly in love.

His master plan? Dive into a lethal dungeon, murder the King of Monsters, steal his power, resurrect Julia, and finally ask her out on a date.

Here is exactly what makes this combat system look so incredibly addictive:

  • Style Eat: Because Davy is a zombie, his main attack is his bite. By devouring the cores of defeated elite enemies, you can physically mutate and steal their powers. There are eleven distinct forms to unlock, allowing you to instantly swap between being a rapid slashing Werewolf, a flying Harpy, or a skeleton summoning Lich right in the middle of a combo.
  • Body Hack: If mutating is not enough, you can literally rip off your own limbs and replace them with high tech weaponry. You can attach missile pods to your shoulders or swap your arm for a massive broadsword to create the perfect custom build.
  • Blazing Fast Growth: The game features a brilliant roguelite progression loop. While dying in the dungeon resets your base level, every single run permanently increases your overall experience multiplier. A dungeon floor that originally took you twenty minutes to grind will eventually be cleared in absolute seconds as Davy levels up exponentially faster on each attempt.

Seeing an action game fully embrace a colorful, graffiti drenched pop punk aesthetic is exactly what the genre needs right now. We have had way too many dark and brooding protagonists lately, so playing as an undead doofus who just wants to impress his frozen crush is a massive breath of fresh air. Plus, having the combat designed by the veterans behind Devil May Cry guarantees that chaining together those different monster transformations is going to feel incredibly satisfying. Stupid Never Dies is officially slated to launch on PC and PlayStation 5 in 2026, so make sure you get it wishlisted right now.
