If the recent reboot of Lords of the Fallen left you with mixed feelings, CI Games is officially asking for a rematch. They just dropped the massive Lifting the Veil developer update, showing off brand new alpha gameplay for Lords of the Fallen 2, and they are directly addressing every single complaint we had about the dual realm system.
The game is officially slated for a 2026 release, built entirely in Unreal Engine 5, and the visual leap is insane. Let us break down exactly what Umbral 2.0 looks like in this new alpha footage.
The biggest change is how the Umbral realm actually functions. In the first game, getting sucked into the land of the dead often felt like an annoying chore with a stressful ticking clock. CI Games completely scrapped that system.
They are aiming straight for the top of the Soulslike pantheon with this one. The combat in the alpha looks incredibly heavy and weighted, completely fixing that floaty feeling from the previous title.
We saw dedicated jump attacks, aggressive half swording techniques for greatswords, and a brand new Scythe weapon class that looks devastating for clearing out massive mobs. The developers also teased a new brutal execution system that plays heavily on risk and reward.
CI Games clearly listened to the community feedback. Taking the time to completely rebuild the Umbral mechanics from the ground up proves they want this 2026 release to actually rival the biggest heavy hitters in the genre.
For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop!
