If you are desperately missing the golden era of early two thousands action games that prioritized pure style over everything else, your prayers have officially been answered. During the massive Future Games Show Spring Showcase this week, developer GPTRACK50 dropped the very first gameplay trailer for Stupid Never Dies, and it is easily the most chaotic announcement of the year.
The studio is being led by Capcom veteran Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the absolute legend who helped create Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Dragons Dogma. They are taking all of that hardcore action experience and pouring it into a vibrant, pop punk fueled action RPG that looks completely insane.
The premise is brilliantly ridiculous. You play as Davy, an incredibly weak zombie living at the absolute bottom of a monster ruled society. After finding a human girl named Julia frozen solid inside an abandoned shopping mall freezer, Davy falls instantly in love.
His master plan? Dive into a lethal dungeon, murder the King of Monsters, steal his power, resurrect Julia, and finally ask her out on a date.
Here is exactly what makes this combat system look so incredibly addictive:
Seeing an action game fully embrace a colorful, graffiti drenched pop punk aesthetic is exactly what the genre needs right now. We have had way too many dark and brooding protagonists lately, so playing as an undead doofus who just wants to impress his frozen crush is a massive breath of fresh air. Plus, having the combat designed by the veterans behind Devil May Cry guarantees that chaining together those different monster transformations is going to feel incredibly satisfying. Stupid Never Dies is officially slated to launch on PC and PlayStation 5 in 2026, so make sure you get it wishlisted right now.
For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop!
