If you thought the hordes in Killing Floor 3 were getting a little too easy to manage, Tripwire Interactive is about to completely shatter your comfort zone. Launching yesterday across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles, Season 3 officially brings us Operation Deep Freeze. And let me tell you, this is exactly the massive adrenaline shot the game needed after that incredibly rocky launch period.

The developers are finally listening to the veteran community. They are cranking up the speed, increasing the lethality, and sending Nightfall straight to the bottom of the world.

The Arctic Arsenal

Let us break down exactly what this massive snowy update is bringing to your loadouts:

  • The Antarctic Base: Say goodbye to the city streets. This brand new map drops you into an abandoned scientific research facility with a massive, terrifying dig site.
  • The Scavenger Threat: Dr Moorcroft has unleashed a completely new enemy type. The Scavenger is a hyper aggressive arthropod that hunts in packs. If you manage to survive the waves, you will have to face the brand new Alpha Scavenger boss, a towering monster that actually heals itself by eating its own minions.
  • Combat Pacing Overhaul: This is the absolute best part of the patch. The developers completely rebalanced the combat to match the frenetic energy of Killing Floor 2. Zeds now have less health but deal significantly more damage and spawn way faster. The game finally feels lethal again.
  • New Hardware: The armory is getting two massive additions. Firebugs can now equip the M97 Trenchgun, a devastating incendiary shotgun that allows you to slam fire shells continuously. If you prefer getting up close and personal, you can equip the Tekko Kagi, electrified ninja claws that come with completely insane thermal and frost blade modifications.
  • Dual Wielding Phase One: The Gunslinger class is officially on the horizon! To prepare, the developers just unlocked the ability to dual wield the Bloodhound and Krait sidearms.
  • Masterson Returns: The absolute legend himself, Masterson III, is officially back on the roster as a playable Specialist, bringing that classic British mercenary attitude right back to the front lines.

Seeing Tripwire implement a massive combat pacing overhaul proves they are incredibly dedicated to saving this game. After the controversial changes made at launch, bringing the speed and lethality back to the classic standard is exactly what the hardcore fans have been begging for. Plus, giving us the ability to slam fire a trench gun while fighting an extradimensional boss in an icy wasteland is peak arcade shooter perfection.

For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop!
