Cutting Edge Clarity: Where Winds Meet Gets the Massive DLSS 4.5 Upgrade

If you have been exploring the gorgeous martial arts open world of Where Winds Meet, your visual experience is about to get a massive boost. Nvidia recently revealed their brand new DLSS 4.5 technology at CES 2026, and our favorite Wuxia RPG is officially on the list of games receiving the upgrade!

This is a huge leap forward for PC performance, but it has definitely sparked a massive debate within the community regarding graphics settings. Let us break down exactly what this update brings to the table and how to get it running smoothly on your rig.

The Magic of DLSS 4.5

Nvidia is pulling out all the stops with this new version. It introduces a second generation transformer model for Super Resolution, which is designed to provide incredible clarity and image quality. For the absolute powerhouses out there rocking the brand new GeForce RTX 50 Series cards, an upcoming Nvidia App beta update on March 31 will also unlock Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and a crazy 6X Multi Frame Generation mode. This means the AI will intelligently adjust the number of generated frames on the fly to perfectly hit your target frame rate without sacrificing responsiveness.

How to Enable It and The DX12 Catch

If you are logging in and cannot find the new DLSS options, you are not alone! A huge portion of the player base ran into a frustrating bug where the menu completely hides the feature and only shows FSR.

Here is the quick fix you need to know:

  • Force DirectX 12: The game must be running in DX12 for DLSS to appear. If you are launching through Steam, go to your game properties and ensure your launch options are set specifically for the DirectX 12 version.
  • Avoid the Shortcut Bug: Some players found that using a desktop shortcut automatically reverts the game back to DX11. Launching directly through your Steam library or creating a fresh shortcut directly from the executable file will fix this issue immediately.

The Great Preset Debate

While the technology sounds flawless on paper, the community is completely split on how it actually looks while playing. Nvidia recommends using Preset M for Performance mode and Preset L for Ultra Performance, but the visual results are varying heavily depending on the player setup.

  • The Pros: Players using Preset M and L at 1440p and 4K are reporting mind blowing sharpness. The new model cleans up blurry textures and makes the world look incredibly crisp, acting as a massive upgrade over the older iterations.
  • The Cons: On the flip side, many players are experiencing severe over sharpening and shimmering. Because Where Winds Meet utilizes Unreal Engine 5, the new DLSS models are occasionally causing water puddles, shadows, and grass foliage to flicker aggressively. Many hardcore visual purists are ditching the new 4.5 settings entirely and manually forcing the game to use the older DLSS 4 Preset K to maintain a softer, more stable image.

Having to troubleshoot launch options just to turn on a graphics setting is definitely annoying, but the performance gains are undeniable if you have the hardware to support it. If you are noticing weird visual glitches or shimmering grass during combat, definitely dive into the Nvidia App and force the game back to Preset K. The extra clarity is not worth it if the environment is distracting you from landing those perfect parries.
