The Great Fortnite Inflation: Epic Games Shrinks V-Bucks To “Pay The Bills”

If you thought inflation was just a real world problem, think again! Epic Games just dropped a massive bombshell on the Fortnite community. Starting March 19, 2026, your hard earned cash is going to buy you significantly fewer V-Bucks. And their official excuse? They literally stated in their blog post that they need to “help pay the bills.”

Wait, what? The company that reportedly pulled in over 6 billion dollars in gross revenue last year is struggling to keep the lights on? The community is absolutely losing their minds over this, so let us break down exactly what is happening to your wallet!

Less Bang For Your Buck

Epic is not technically raising the dollar amount on the store pages, but they are massively slashing the amount of premium currency you actually receive.

Here is the new reality starting next week:

If you just need a tiny top up to grab a new emote, the exact amount option is basically doubling in price. Fifty V Bucks will now cost you roughly $0.99 instead of the old $0.50 rate. Ouch.

Battle Passes Are Cheaper (But There Is A Catch)

To soften the blow, Epic is dropping the price of the Battle Pass from 1,000 down to 800 V Bucks. This means your standard $8.99 purchase will still perfectly cover your entry into the new season. The OG Pass is also dropping to 800, while the Music and LEGO passes are dropping to 1,200.

But here is the sneaky catch that has everyone frustrated! The Battle Pass will now only reward you with exactly 800 V-Bucks upon completion. All the extra bonus currency rewards you used to grind for at the end of the pass are completely gone. You can no longer slowly save up a free surplus over multiple seasons to buy an Item Shop skin.

Saying you need to “pay the bills” when you run the absolute biggest game on the planet is a ridiculously wild PR move. Players are definitely not buying it, especially when Epic has been fighting massive legal battles to avoid paying app store fees!

The only real silver lining here is that the Epic Rewards program will still give you 20 percent cash back as store credit if you use their official payment systems. But honestly? If you have been eyeing a specific crossover skin, you absolutely need to load up your account before March 19 hits and your money loses its value!

For BREAK THE META, this is WILD SURF. Catch you on the next drop!
