Nintendo finally pulled the curtain back on its first wave of Switch 2 exclusives during the February Pokémon Presents, and it’s clear they aren’t just making games—they’re making digital vacations.
Here is the breakdown of why your wallet is about to get a lot lighter.
Forget the stress of the Elite Four. Pokémon Pokopia, launching March 5, 2026, is a pure cozy-core simulation that feels like Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders had a very adorable baby.
In a weirdly poetic twist, you don’t play as a trainer. You play as a Ditto that has transformed into a human. Tasked with rebuilding a desolate island alongside Professor Tangrowth, you’ll spend your days crafting, gardening, and convincing other Pokémon to move in.
The coolest mechanic here is the Ability System. Want to clear some brush? Learn Leafage from a Bulbasaur. Need to cross a lake? Surf with a Lapras. There’s even a four-player multiplayer mode where you and your friends can play hide-and-seek by transforming into random objects like chairs or potted plants. It’s essentially a “Prophunt” mode but with Pokémon, and frankly, we are here for it.
If you’ve tried to buy a physical copy of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness recently, you know it costs about as much as a used car. Thankfully, Nintendo is ending the madness. The GameCube cult classic is officially hitting the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library on March 2, 2026.
This is the first time the Orre region has been accessible on a modern console. For those who missed it back in 2005, it’s a darker, double-battle-focused RPG where you “snag” Shadow Pokémon from evil trainers and purify their hearts. While it’s locked to the Switch 2 GameCube Classics tier, it’s a massive win for preservation—and for anyone who just wants to see Shadow Lugia in high definition.
Both of these titles are being used to show off the Switch 2’s hardware jump. Pokopia features a real-time day/night cycle and weather patterns that look significantly more lush than anything we saw on the original Switch.
Nintendo also confirmed that Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Switch 2 Edition is coming on March 26, featuring a new social hub called Bellabel Park. It’s clear that March 2026 is the month Nintendo officially passes the torch to the next generation.
