Hold onto your heirlooms, Legends—the Galactic Games Event is crashing into Apex Legends from August 19 to September 9, and it’s bringing more chaos, wall-running, and power-ups than a Titanfall fever dream.
Respawn is cranking the dial way past 11 with the latest Wildcard mode takeover, and honestly? It’s glorious. Here’s why this isn’t just another limited-time mode—this one’s rewriting the Apex formula.
The Galactic Games mode introduces Wild Cards that drop you into matches with game-breaking (in a good way) buffs. You unlock a new slot each round (Rounds 1-3), and the card effects are absolute madness:
Oh, and did we mention the Grand Slam Bat? Yeah, every player gets a universal melee weapon that slaps harder with each hit—land three and it turns into a knock-out stick.
This isn’t just Respawn tossing in gimmicks for kicks. Wild Cards inject a fresh tempo that rewards aggressive, creative play. Wall-running alone turns every fight into a 3D chess match. Plus, the rotating card mechanics force squad flexibility and challenge the stale meta.
That said, not everyone’s having an easy time adjusting. Some legends (looking at you, Wattson mains) are getting cooked by the faster pace, and balance purists are already sharpening their pitchforks on Reddit.
It wouldn’t be a proper Apex event without a fashion show:
And yeah, there’s a store rotation if you’ve been holding out those crafting metals for something actually worth it. Alongside the event, Respawn pushed a bug-fix patch (Aug 13) targeting:
Smooth moves, Respawn. Let’s just hope those Accolades get un-paused soon.
